How to litter train your rabbit:
Here are two of our 8 week old french lops waiting for new homes as they learn to use the litter box!
To start off you'll need a cage to keep your rabbit in, we recommend for large breed rabbits like French lops or giant flemmish to use a large wire dog crate and put a litter box in there, or a playpen/exercise pen and put a litter, box in there, with pine shavings or compressed pine pellets, we use the pine pellets it seems to absorb the urine smell better and can be less toxic to the bunnies, put some romaine lettuce/hay or special bunny friendly treats in the litter since they like to go to the bathroom where they graze/eat. Take your bunny out as much as you would like but only for short periods of time. Around 10-15 mins then put them back in their cage & wait for them to go potty & as soon as they do you can bring them back out. If they potty outside their cage pick up the pellets & or soak up the pee with a paper towel & put it in their cage. When they start to get the hang of it after a week or so you will need a play pen to set up around the cage. Leave the cage open & let them come out & play in play pen & if they potty repeat the process above. After a little while you can take the cage away & play pen & just place a litter box with pine shavings/pellets there in it's place with some hay, grass or goodies for them to graze on. Another great use for the exercise pen is you can stretch it out to block of areas of the house you don't want you bunny to be in.
